German utility Uniper has secured multiple long-term energy supply agreements to bolster national energy security. In late July 2026, Ksi Lisims LNG, a proposed floating liquefied natural gas project on the coast of British Columbia, signed a sale and purchase agreement with Uniper. The deal involves the annual purchase of two million tonnes of LNG, representing the first major LNG supply contract between Canada and Germany. The project aims to utilize hydroelectric power to maintain low emission levels. By late August 2026, Uniper entered into a separate 15-year agreement with Equinor. Under this contract, Equinor will deliver more than 30 terawatt-hours of natural gas annually to Germany via existing pipeline infrastructure starting in 2027. The agreement, which runs through December 31, 2041, involves approximately 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
