On October 24, 2026, United Airlines Flight 1681, a Boeing 737 traveling from Las Vegas to Newark, was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport shortly after takeoff. The diversion occurred when a flight attendant observed a passenger, 25-year-old Dante Milne, allegedly sending text messages that stated, “I’m gonna hijack this bitch and crash ur row only.” The crew initiated a cockpit lockdown and declared an emergency while the aircraft was at an altitude of approximately 24,000 feet. The plane landed safely in Las Vegas with 150 passengers and six crew members on board, and no injuries were reported. Milne, a resident of New Jersey, was arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He claimed the messages were intended as “banter between coworkers” and noted he had been intoxicated. intoxicated following consumption of alcohol at an airport bar prior to boarding. While facing felony charges for making threats or providing false information regarding an act of terrorism, which carries a potential prison sentence of one to 20 years, Milne was released on $10,000 bail. His attorney stated he intends to plead not guilty, and legal proceedings are expected to continue until January 2027.
