The University of Lynchburg athletic teams experienced mixed results across several sports in September 2026. In volleyball, the Lynchburg Hornets defeated the Catholic University of America Cardinals 3-0 in a non-conference match. They also secured a three-set sweep against Roanoke with scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 26-24, led by Kate Hardie’s 18 terminations. In women's soccer, the Hornets maintained an undefeated 8-0 start to the season following a 9-0 victory over Hollins during Senior Day. The match featured nine different goal scorers and a shutout by goalkeeper Kylie Cass. Field hockey results remained difficult for the team, which suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to the Bates Bobcats and a 2-1 home loss to Rowan. In the Rowan match, Khanyisile Mzizi provided an equalizer in the second quarter, but Rowan scored a late goal in the fourth quarter to secure the win. In equestrian competition, the Lynchburg team opened its season with a two-day road trip to Alabama. The Hornets were defeated 9-0 by the No. 3 ranked Auburn equestrian team in a Jumping Seat-only contest. While the meet does not count toward official records, Auburn maintained a raw-score advantage of 854-800. Lynchburg concluded the trip with a 5-3 victory over Bridgewater College, securing the win through performance in the flat event after trailing 3-2 following the fences portion. Additionally, the University of Lynchburg IHSA equestrian team hosted its first Tournament of Champions, where Team Black secured first place.
