The municipal government of Foggia is advancing several urban development and infrastructure initiatives. On September 17, the council approved the construction of 64 new public housing units by Arca Capitanata, supported by nearly ten million euros in ministerial funding. This decision follows the collapse of a previous agreement regarding the ‘Cittadella Ecologica S. Maria’. Alongside housing, the city approved a plan to revitalize its historic center through the installation of public artworks to improve urban decorum. By September 19, reports indicated that a major infrastructure project in the Foggia exhibition district is nearing completion. The project, costing over 20 million euros, includes a new office building and an underground parking garage with 800 spaces. Despite timeline extensions caused by inconsistent financial flows, the facility is approximately 96-97% finished and is expected to be operational by January. The structure incorporates advanced engineering, such as over 300 seismic isolators, and was constructed entirely by local companies. On September 28, municipal officials met with Confcommercio Foggia to discuss urban regeneration strategies. Representatives from the urban planning and social services departments reviewed a proposal from the Confcommercio Study Office targeting Via Arpi, Viale XXIV Maggio, and the city center, including Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Dante. The proposal suggests that commerce, services, and artisanal activities should be treated as essential urban infrastructure, focusing on supporting economic and social functions to revitalize these areas rather than solely on physical redevelopment. On October 12, the municipality approved documentation to apply for a 3 million euro regional grant through the ‘Puglia Accogliente’ program. The proposed ‘Foggia Accogliente’ project aims to renovate a complex of private buildings in the Tredici Carri area, near Borgo Mezzanone, to provide housing and social inclusion services for legally residing migrants.
