Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi has engaged in various diplomatic and domestic activities. In early September, Orsi hosted Argentine Senator Gerardo Zamora and Buenos Aires Chief of Government Jorge Macri at the Official Residence in Montevideo during the Smart Cities 2026 forum. Zamora emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Argentina and Uruguay. By mid-September, Orsi traveled to New York to address the United Nations General Assembly. His international agenda included meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Google Vice President Karan Bhatia, and the presidents of Paraguay and Bolivia as part of the Urupabol alliance. He also scheduled discussions regarding organized crime with Chilean President José Antonio Kast, alongside dialogues with investment and artificial intelligence sectors. Following his mission to New York, Orsi reported progress in regional cooperation. He met with the presidents of Bolivia and Paraguay to discuss the development of a regional logistics corridor and the potential construction of a deep-water port. He also participated in meetings regarding the Santiago Agreement to strengthen South American coordination against organized crime. In the technology sector, Orsi met with representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank and major tech firms, proposing Uruguay as a regional hub for artificial intelligence. Addressing the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, he noted that ‘Uruguay is not a novelty for those who make these decisions,’ highlighting the nation's capacity for innovation. Domestically, Orsi attended the Expo Rural del Prado, where he met with National Party president Álvaro Delgado and participated in a lunch organized by the Asociación Rural del Uruguay (ARU). The ARU addressed controversy regarding a United Kingdom embassy stand at the expo, stating they remain sensitive to Argentina's position regarding the Falkland Islands.
