In early April 2026, Steel presented her credentials to the Korean foreign ministry and met with U.S. commander Gen. Jay B. Brunsen and the head of Korea’s National Security Office, reaffirming a “core pillar of regional peace and security.” On 12 August 2026, President Lee Jae-myung officially received Steel’s credentials during a ceremony at the Blue House. During a private discussion, President Lee expressed hope that Steel would serve as a “reliable bridge” to strengthen the alliance. On 21 August 2026, Steel met with National Assembly Speaker Jo Jeong-sik to discuss enhancing legislative cooperation. Speaker Jo proposed creating a counterpart to the Korea-U.S. Parliamentary Union within the U.S. Congress to facilitate better communication between lawmakers.
