In late July 2026 the United States launched a two‑part effort to stabilise Gaza. On 27 July officials announced a programme to train about 5,000 Palestinians for a nascent Gaza police force, ~~to be~~ overseen by an International Stabilisation Unit and funded by the U.S. Two days later President Donald J. Trump used his Truth Social platform to reiterate that his “Board of Peace” had secured a historic, phased disarmament agreement with Hamas and all other armed groups in the enclave. The plan calls for weapons surrender, Israeli troop withdrawals, deployment of an International Stabilisation Force alongside the new Palestinian police, and the formation of a new Gaza government coordinated with the Board of Peace. Trump thanked Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for mediating. On 30‑31 July Trump posted that the Board of Peace had reached a “historic” agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas, to be executed in structured phases. Neither Israeli ~~strikes~~ nor Hamas leadership offered an immediate comment; Israeli officials said the proposal did not yet meet their security demands. Israeli airstrikes on the day of the announcement killed at least six Palestinians, including ~~children, while Hamas had not yet responded.~~ children.
