US defense aviation and technology contracts
Overview
The United States Department of Defense has issued several major contracts focused on naval aviation and advanced defense technologies.
In early September, GE Aerospace secured a $2.87 billion logistics contract to support F414 engine components for the Navy’s F/A-18 E/F/G aircraft fleets through 2031. Concurrently, GE received an award to advance its HyCAT hypersonic test platform, a liquid-fueled vehicle designed for high-cadence airborne testing.
Later in the month, the Pentagon awarded Boeing a $20 billion contract under the ‘Next Generation Air Dominance’ program to develop the F/A-XX carrier-based fighter, intended to replace the Super Hornet fleet. Additionally, Amentum Technologies was granted a $572.3 million contract to develop a space attack detection and missile warning system at Peterson Space Force Base, with work expected to continue through 2033.
