A September 2026 survey of Democratic and progressive voters indicates varying levels of support for different methods to remove President Donald Trump from office. According to the poll, 75 percent of respondents expressed support for impeachment, conviction, and removal. Support for invoking the 25th Amendment also remained high at 70 percent. The survey included more controversial responses regarding political violence and sudden death. Approximately 45 percent of respondents felt “very positive” about the prospect of the President passing away “overnight in his sleep,” while 43 percent expressed a “very positive” reaction to a military coup intended to “safeguard the Constitution.” Additionally, 23 percent of respondents stated they would feel “very positive” if they saw a headline stating Trump was assassinated at a rally. A subsequent poll conducted by the Center for Strategic Politics reported different figures regarding these sentiments. This survey indicated that 59 percent of respondents would support a military coup to remove Trump from office, provided it was done to “protect the Constitution,” and 31 percent expressed support for the assassination of the president. The Center for Strategic Politics poll also noted that 69 percent of Democrats favor expanding the Supreme Court and 68 percent support increased immigration. Regarding the Senate, 52 percent believe the filibuster should be abolished, while 17 percent believe the Senate itself should be abolished. In response to the findings, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) stated “no” when asked if he stands with voters supporting a military coup.
