US economic and digital engagement in Central Asia
Overview
The United States has initiated several economic and security-focused programs to strengthen ties with Central Asian and South Caucasus nations.
In late September 2026, the U.S. established the $201 million Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund to encourage private investment in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. This initiative seeks to develop the ‘Middle Corridor’ trade route and transform the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP) into a commercial artery. Regional officials from Armenia and Azerbaijan have noted that the fund leverages peace-building mechanisms to foster infrastructure and high-tech growth.
Following this, the U.S. committed $5 million in assistance specifically for cybersecurity and digital development across the five Central Asian states. Announced during a C5+1 conference in Astana, this funding aims to protect critical infrastructure, enhance financial security, and support regional startups, particularly those working with artificial intelligence.
