The dispute coincides with tightening U.S. trade restrictions, including a 100 percent tariff on Chinese electric vehicle imports. New regulations from the Bureau of Industry and Security are also targeting software and hardware used for connectivity and autonomous driving systems in vehicles linked to China or Russia. While software restrictions are expected to affect 2027 model year vehicles, hardware connectivity restrictions will impact 2030 models. Amidst these shifts, Ford has requested individual permission from the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue importing the Lincoln Nautilus from China.
