Overview

A series of significant healthcare-related data breaches has impacted millions of individuals in the United States.

In mid-May 2026, DentaQuest, a subsidiary of Sun Life, reported a cyberattack that exposed the sensitive information of at least 15 million people, with some estimates suggesting the number could reach 23.4 million. The compromised data included Social Security numbers, Medicaid and Medicare numbers, and dental or vision health information. The company engaged Kroll to conduct a forensic review.

Following this, additional breaches were reported involving AdaptHealth, LLC and CareCloud. AdaptHealth reported a breach affecting at least 48,090 residents in Vermont, representing approximately 7.5 percent of the state’s population. Separately, CareCloud disclosed that a hacker accessed an electronic health record environment in March, impacting approximately 3,756,469 people. The CareCloud breach involved the theft of Social Security numbers, financial information, and medical and insurance data across several states, including Texas, South Carolina, and Oregon.
