US stock markets are facing a period of heightened volatility as investors prepare for a significant week of financial disclosures. Major technology and artificial intelligence firms, including Alphabet, Microsoft, and Amazon, are scheduled to release earnings reports that may indicate the sustainability of infrastructure and data center spending. Investors are increasingly shifting focus from simple revenue growth to the actual return on investment for artificial intelligence and the sustainability of massive capital expenditures. In addition to tech sector results, a wide range of corporations such as Verizon Communications, Boeing, Coca-Cola, PayPal, Visa, and Ford Motor are expected to report. Verizon Communications is set to report first, with analysts expecting year-on-year revenue growth of 2.8%. In the asset management sector, Invesco is also scheduled to report, with projected revenue growth of 16.5% year-on-year. The market is also monitoring a Federal Reserve meeting regarding interest rates, alongside upcoming decisions from the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan. Economic indicators remain a key driver, including fluctuations in the US dollar, rising oil prices—with Brent crude trading around $114 per barrel—and varied currency movements, such as a supported Japanese yen and a pressured Euro. Verizon Communications has since reported its third-quarter 2026 results, highlighting 406,000 net postpaid phone additions, an 820% increase year-over-year. However, the company’s quarterly revenue of $34.3 billion missed Wall Street estimates of approximately $34.7 billion, largely due to a 9% decline in equipment revenue. Despite the revenue miss, Verizon announced a strategic agreement worth more than $2 billion with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support infrastructure for generative and agent-based artificial intelligence workloads. Verizon also raised its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings per share guidance to a range of $5.04 to $5.06.
