US-Middle East security and diplomatic shifts

Regional tensions involving Iraq, the United States, Iran, and Israel have evolved through shifts in military presence and diplomatic engagement. Initially, Iraq implemented a security plan to prevent its territory from being used for regional attacks following drone strikes on Saudi oil facilities. During this period, the United States began withdrawing Patriot missile systems and personnel from Erbil International Airport, and President Donald Trump canceled a planned large-scale operation against Iran, a move condemned by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.

Subsequently, U.S. policy toward the region has shifted toward reducing military and security assistance to the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq, with the Pentagon proposing budget cuts for the Peshmerga forces. Regarding Iran, the Trump administration has indicated it has no interest in returning to previous memorandum terms, maintaining maritime blockades and economic pressure following the collapse of a mediated ceasefire and nuclear negotiation framework.
