US military counter-drone procurement initiative
Overview
The U.S. Department of Defense has launched a new online Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Marketplace to accelerate the acquisition of counter-drone technology. Developed by Kaizen Laboratories for the Joint Interagency Task Force-401, the platform allows military, federal, law enforcement, and allied users to search and compare validated equipment, such as jammers and kinetic weapons.
The initiative aims to bypass traditional, slow procurement processes and was informed by the rapid proliferation of low-cost commercial drones seen in recent conflicts.
Following the platform's launch, the U.S. Army has begun utilizing the marketplace to decentralize procurement. During evaluation events in Alabama, operational units participated in demonstrations of Medium Range Reconnaissance (MRR) systems. These units were able to evaluate Group 2 systems and select up to two different systems to meet their specific reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition needs, which are scheduled for fielding and training in the coming months.
