This strategic move follows a significant rise in domestic energy demand; according to the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), electricity consumption in Paraguay grew by 18.2% between January and July 2026 compared to the previous year. While Paraguay continues to rely on hydroelectric sources like Itaipú and Yacyretá, the nuclear initiative aims to address long-term energy needs as consumption continues to climb.
