Market research from Circana indicates that the PlayStation 5 has outsold the PlayStation 4 in the United States when comparing the first 71 months of each console's lifecycle. The PS5 holds a 1% lead over the PS4 and a 30 to 40% lead over the PlayStation 3 during the same timeframe. Despite higher pricing for the standard model and the PS5 Pro, as well as previous supply chain issues and a perceived reduction in exclusive titles, the console has maintained its advantage. Analysts suggest sales volumes may increase toward the end of the year, potentially aided by the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Additionally, Sony is reportedly participating in a buyback program through the platform Back Market, where users have received invitations to sell used PS5 consoles for up to 400 dollars to facilitate the recovery and resale of hardware. Regarding the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games has confirmed the official launch date of November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-loading is scheduled to begin on November 10. For PlayStation 5 users, the download window opens at midnight local time, while Xbox Series X|S players begin at 00:00 GMT.
