US push to relocate OSCE summit

On 24 July 2026 a bipartisan coalition of U.S. lawmakers, led by Rep. Joe Wilson, introduced a joint congressional resolution with about 40 co‑sponsors to move the 2027 OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from Belgrade to Charleston, South Carolina. The resolution argued that hosting the meeting in the United States would underscore Washington’s commitment to OSCE allies and highlight concerns over Serbia’s economic ties to Russia, its refusal to join Western sanctions, and its hostile stance toward Kosovo.

Three days later, on 27 July 2026, Kosovo’s envoy Faton Bislimi confirmed the introduction of the resolution (Congressional Resolution 1451) and framed it as a clear signal of growing U.S. support for Kosovo and a rebuke to Serbia, which he described as a key instrument of Russian influence in Europe. Bislimi thanked Rep. Wilson and the bipartisan sponsors, stressing the importance of a unified Euro‑Atlantic message on democracy, rule of law, and collective security.
