Following a presidential decree by Donald Trump to replace the term ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘super intelligence’ (SI) in official U.S. government documents, there has been a massive surge in registrations for the Slovenian .si domain extension. The move was motivated by the belief that the word ‘artificial’ implies the technology is fake. Trump also announced the creation of a ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton. Initial reports indicated over 10,000 new .si registrations in a single day, with Elon Musk reportedly rebranding his company from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. Subsequent data showed the surge increased to over 20,000 new registrations within a 24-hour period. Security firm Netcraft noted that many of these registrations appear to be prepared for resale on the aftermarket. New data reveals the scale of the surge has reached unprecedented levels. In September, 44,000 web addresses were registered for the .si extension, compared to fewer than 2,000 the previous month—an increase of over 2,100%. A significant spike of 11,000 registrations occurred on September 30 alone. Speculative activity on the aftermarket has intensified. Recent sales on Sedo for .si domains totaled $46,465 USD and €80,630 EUR across 26 reported transactions. Individual prices have ranged from $2,000 to $12,000, with high-value sales including ‘ex.si’ ($12,000) and ‘cosmic.si’ ($7,995). These sales primarily involve English dictionary words, commercial keywords, and short two-letter addresses. While the rebrand does not reflect technological changes to AI systems, some observers have raised questions regarding potential insider knowledge of the rebrand due to the timing of certain registrations. Both the White House and Slovenia’s domain operator, Register.si, have denied any wrongdoing. Barbara Povše of the .si registry has noted that the sudden influx has created operational challenges for the registry, which previously experienced stable and predictable growth.
