By the week of 14 August, the U.S. total rig count rose to 593, the highest since March 2025, including one additional oil rig and four additional gas rigs. During this period, Canada reached 219 active rigs, driven by an increase of five oil rigs. U.S. crude oil production averaged 13.805 million barrels per day, a slight increase from the previous week. However, by 21 August, the U.S. total rig count fell to 588, with oil rigs dropping to 452 and gas rigs to 127. Despite this decline, weekly crude production rose to an average of 13.830 million barrels per day for the week ending 14 August, up 503,000 bpd from a year ago. Regional activity remained mixed: Permian Basin rigs increased to 267 and Eagle Ford rose to 50, while the Primary Vision Frac Spread Count fell to 193. For the week ending 28 August, the U.S. oil and gas rig count remained unchanged at 588. A shift in focus occurred as oil rigs decreased by five to 447, while gas rigs increased by five to 132. In Canada, the rig count fell by three units to 216, though this remained 36 units higher than the same period last year. The total North American rig count declined by eight units to 804. In the U.S., the Permian Basin remained stable at 267 rigs, while Texas activity rose to approximately 281 or 282 rigs, its highest level since February 2025. Conversely, rig counts in New Mexico and Louisiana both decreased by three. By the week ending 4 September, the U.S. total rig count held steady at 588. Sector activity shifted again as oil rigs increased by two to 449, while gas rigs decreased by two to 130, though gas levels remain higher than the previous year. U.S.
