Police in Malaysia have conducted several operations targeting the theft of utility and telecommunications cables. In Temerloh, raids conducted between September 15 and 19 led to the arrest of seven individuals linked to three criminal groups: ‘Geng Mat Letrik’, ‘Geng Mista’, and ‘Geng Sasi’. The suspects allegedly targeted cables belonging to Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Telekom Malaysia Berhad. Authorities seized equipment and cables valued at approximately RM50,000, noting that stolen materials were being sold to scrap metal dealers. In a separate incident in Lundu, a 29-year-old man was detained by the Padawan District Police Task Force. The suspect reportedly admitted to stealing wireless power cables and GI Flexible Conduct with an accomplice. The individual involved has a prior criminal record for theft and drug offenses. In Ipoh, police arrested three men, aged 20 to 38, during an early morning operation at a fenced plantation. Authorities seized 65 cables of various sizes suspected to belong to Telekom Malaysia, along with a Toyota Hilux, a Honda Civic, and various tools. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code as police look into potential involvement in other cable theft incidents within the district.
