The probe focused on bank transactions and potential local or foreign income sources for institutions operating without government financial assistance. By mid-September 2026, the investigation led to the arrest of 19-year-old Mohammad Nabil in Azamgarh. Authorities allege Nabil had links to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and used encrypted social media platforms to radicalize youth. Investigators claim Nabil used coded language to discuss operational plans and intended to travel to several countries for terrorist training. Detailed findings from the ATS indicate Nabil utilized encrypted WhatsApp groups, specifically naming ‘La Ghalib – Illallah’ and ‘Flames of War’, to recruit ‘mujahids’. To evade detection, he reportedly used terms such as ‘trip’, ‘pen’, ‘juice’, and ‘project’ to refer to jihad, knives, chemicals, and operational plans.
