The third edition of the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) 2026, organized by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, is scheduled to run from September 21 to October 1 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun. The tournament serves as a platform for local talent, including icon players, established cricketers, and Under-23 and Under-19 players, to gain visibility ahead of the IPL auction period. The women’s tournament began on September 21, featuring the Pithoragarh Hurricanes, Dehradun Warriors, Bageshwar Aerial, and Mussoorie Queens. In the opening match, the Dehradun Warriors defeated the Pithoragarh Hurricanes after restricting them to 84/7; Minakshi Joshi was named Player of the Match for her three-wicket haul. In the second match, the Mussoorie Queens defeated Bageshwar Aerial via the DLS method due to rain interference, with Roshni Danu earning Player of the Match honors. The women’s final is set for September 24. The men’s competition is scheduled to begin on September 22 with a match between Haridwar Elmas and the Nainital Tigers. The men’s league consists of seven teams: Pithoragarh Hurricanes, USN Indians, Nainital Tigers, Rishikesh River Kings, Haridwar Elmas, Tehri Titans, and Dehradun Warriors. Sunil Joshi, Chairperson of the UPL, has described the franchise league as a “vital feeder system” for aspiring talent. He noted that the tournament provides a pathway to high-performance environments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Women’s Premier League (WPL), and national teams. Joshi highlighted that the league offers opportunities to players not selected for other state-level competitions, citing the success of players like Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal and several women cricketers as evidence of the league bridging grassroots and professional cricket. The current edition features seven franchises and provides opportunities for approximately 77 players.
