Valdai Discussion Club security and geopolitical shifts

Overview

The Valdai Discussion Club, Russia’s primary foreign policy conference, underwent a change in venue due to security concerns. Originally scheduled to take place in Sochi, the event was relocated to Moscow following recommendations from security services regarding threats from long-range Ukrainian drone attacks.

During the XXIII annual meeting, President Vladimir Putin addressed the conference, characterizing the current global era as a “decisive turning point” marked by fundamental shifts in politics, economics, and technology. He specifically noted the dual nature of artificial intelligence, citing its potential for both improving quality of life and causing “mass destruction and loss of human control.”
