Vasco da Gama confirmed that its upcoming Campeonato Brasileiro derby against Flamengo would be moved to the Nilton Santos stadium. This decision followed the club’s inability to secure authorization from the Military Police and the Brazilian Football Confederation to host the match at its own stadium, São Januário. The move utilized a standing rental agreement with Botafogo. Vasco officials cited concerns regarding pitch conditions at the Maracanã as an additional reason for avoiding that venue. Following mediation by the Rio de Janeiro Football Federation (Ferj), (Ferj) and requests from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the clubs reached an agreement to divide tickets equally for the match. This overturned Vasco’s initial proposal to allocate 90% of tickets to its own supporters and 10% to Flamengo. Under the new 50/50 arrangement, Flamengo fans will occupy the Leste and Sul sectors, while Vasco fans will be assigned to the Oeste and Norte sectors. Vasco stated that the decision reflects a commitment to “institutional dialogue and the preservation of Rio de Janeiro's footballing traditions.” The club noted that while it will continue to defend its interests, it recognizes the importance of “collective responsibility within Brazilian football.” Fans who previously purchased tickets for sectors subject to reallocation will receive guidance or refunds for price differences.
