A vehicle fell into an a three-meter-deep excavation at the intersection of Eje 2 Norte Manuel González and Lerdo Street in the Nonoalco Tlatelolco neighborhood of Mexico City. The driver, an elderly man identified as Inocente Rivera Pascual, stated reported that darkness and wet pavement from recent rains made the hole difficult to see. Although the vehicle ended up in a nearly vertical position, Rivera was treated by medical personnel and reported no injuries. Emergency services, including the Mexico City Fire Department, used a crane to remove the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The sinkhole was reportedly caused by drainage connection works near the IMSS General Zone Hospital No. 27. The Secretariat of Integral Water Management (SEGIAGUA) noted that the project is the responsibility of the Urban Services area of the Cuauhtémoc borough rather than their own jurisdiction. Authorities from the Mexico City government and the Cuauhtémoc borough have pledged support to Rivera. This assistance includes medical coverage for potential future health consequences and aid regarding the total loss of his 1997 vehicle.
