Following a series of fatal accidents and fires in Spain and Latin America through mid-August 2026, new incidents of vehicle fires, collisions, and impaired driving have been reported. In late August, vehicle fires caused significant disruptions. In Argentina, a Volkswagen Saveiro was destroyed on Provincial Route 20 near San Gregorio, and a parked vehicle in General Pico caught fire, possibly due to electrical failure. In Spain, a truck fire on the AP-68 near Haro required helicopter and forest firefighter intervention, while an abandoned Seat Ibiza burned under a bridge on the AP-9 in Pontevedra. In Chile, a stolen Kia was found destroyed by fire near Río de las Minas. In late August and September, reports of impaired driving increased. In Argentina, a 28-year-old driver faced trial for homicide in Córdoba after a high-speed collision while intoxicated and filming himself. In Villa Mercedes, a 17-year-old driver tested at 2.14 g/l of alcohol during a collision that caused a vehicle to overturn. Similar incidents occurred in Bolivia, where a minibus rolled over due to an intoxicated driver. Other regional incidents included a fatal motorcycle accident in Peru and a collision in Mexico that left ten injured. In September, Argentina saw accidents involving pregnant women in Malargüe and near Arroyo Ludueña. Impaired driving continued with an intoxicated driver blocking railway tracks in Chajarí, while a sobriety operation in Querétaro, Mexico, led to 37 detentions. Fatalities were reported in Mendoza following an unauthorized racing accident and in Mar de Ajó after a motorcycle collision. Fuel-related incidents included a van fire in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and a fuel tanker explosion on Argentina’s National Route 14. In mid-October 2026, further fatalities occurred in Argentina. In Entre Ríos, a mother and son died in a head-on collision with a truck on Provincial Route 39. In San Luis, a truck driver died after striking bridge columns, and another driver died following a collision and fire on National Route 12. In Mendoza, a 5-year-old boy died after falling from a truck. Additional fatalities and injuries were reported in Paraguay, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay.
