The investigation into the misuse of vehicles assigned to former Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin has expanded as part of a broader probe by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into the Alihan Kuriş organized crime group. In addition to the Volvo leased for a symbolic annual fee of 1,000 Turkish Liras—which was used to transport fugitives Hilmi Tuna Kuriş and Erhan Yılmaz to Muğla—authorities have identified two other vehicles (plates 34 S 7815 and 34 RM 8677) allegedly used for unauthorized purposes. One of these vehicles was reportedly used by Ömer Sipahioğlu, who has since fled to Germany. Furthermore, Ömür Yücel, a former staff member of the Ministry of Interior’s Private Secretariat, has been detained. The scrutiny follows a large-scale operation against the criminal organization that resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.34 billion TL in assets, including 200 kilograms of gold bullion. Investigators are currently examining the financial and commercial connections between the criminal group and various companies across multiple sectors. Following a three-and-a-half-hour statement to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Şahin has been placed under judicial control measures, including a ban on traveling abroad. Defending himself, Şahin claimed the vehicles were used without his knowledge and stated he had filed a complaint against the company involved, noting he had rented a vehicle for use in Istanbul while residing in Ankara. Authorities specifically noted that a vehicle registered to Şahin was used by Hilmi Tuna Kuriş during an attempt to flee the country via Marmaris. Prosecutors have charged Şahin with aiding a criminal organization and harboring a criminal, noting that vehicles assigned to him were allegedly used by members of the Süleymancılar group to facilitate activities including the kidnapping of Hilmi Tuna Kuriş.
