Venezuela has initiated several measures to stabilize domestic supply chains and agricultural production. Initially, the government formed an alliance with the National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Services (ANSA) to ensure the availability of pork during the December holiday season through continuous technical monitoring. Subsequently, the Ministry for Productive Agriculture and Lands introduced a price transparency plan for agroinputs, such as fertilizers. To mitigate price volatility, the government will publish weekly international price series as a domestic reference and deploy the National Superintendency for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights (SUNDDE) to monitor distribution and pricing in specific states. Additionally, Venezuela has sought to strengthen regional food security through bilateral strategic alliances and technical exchanges with Barbados. Recent developments show a deepening of the partnership with Barbados, as Minister of Agriculture Shantal Munro-Knight and Venezuelan Minister Vladimir Padrino López discussed investment in strategic crops including sweet potato, squash, passion fruit, and peppers. This cooperation aims to establish export routes for Venezuelan pineapple, bell pepper, and tomato to Barbados. Domestically, the government is targeting increased self-sufficiency. The sugar industry processed over 4.6 million tons during the 2025-2026 cycle, meeting 55% of national demand and reducing imports by 20%, with a long-term goal of zero sugar imports by 2030-2032. To support producers, authorities continue monitoring fertilizer prices and conducting inspections in states such as Guárico and Portuguesa. While domestic pork supply remains high, officials noted that gaps in total self-sufficiency persist.
