In Venezuela, the Road Safety Observatory (OSV) reported significant traffic-related casualties during the first half of 2026, noting that 71 pedestrians were killed and 92 were injured. The organization attributed these figures to poor signaling, a lack of protective infrastructure, and disregard for pedestrian zones. By July 2026, the scale of accidents increased, resulting in 103 deaths and 391 injuries in that month alone. The OSV reported that motorcycles were involved in the majority of the 299 recorded accidents, with 50 motorcyclists and 9 passengers dying. Excessive speed was identified as the primary cause in 179 cases. OSV coordinator Rosibel González called for reinforced prevention policies, including electronic surveillance and stricter motorcycle regulations. Further analysis by the NGO Paz Activa regarding the July data indicated that the majority of the victims were young people between the ages of 20 and 29. The organization identified speeding and driver error as the primary causes of these incidents.
