In July 2026, six Venezuelan basketball players and a coach signed with teams in Mexico's Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional, highlighting the league's growing draw for Venezuelan talent during the national off‑season. Following a double‑earthquake on June 24, the Venezuelan Liga de Baloncesto Nacional (LBN) announced that its 2026 season would be delayed from its original September 4 kickoff until late September. Board member Rafael Escalante stated the postponement was necessary to allow venues and logistics to be fully prepared. Due to international flight disruptions, the LBN season will be contested exclusively by Venezuelan athletes, with plans to re‑introduce imports in 2027. The league also introduced a requirement for each club to field a U19 player for a minimum of five minutes per game and added a pre‑match 3x3 tournament. In August, the Venezuelan Ministry of Sport and the Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) announced the creation of a new professional competition, the Liga Superior de Baloncesto. Baloncesto (LSB). The inaugural season, titled ‘Copa Venezuela Renace’, is scheduled to run from September to December and will feature ten organizations. Like the LBN, this league will feature rosters composed exclusively of local Venezuelan players. Revenue generated from this competition will be allocated to assist individuals affected by the June 24 seismic events. On August 28, LSB President and Minister of Sport Franklin Cardillo announced the ‘Copa Venezuela Renace’ will debut on September 25, with an opening match between Cocodrilos de Caracas and Trotamundos de Carabobo. The project, initiated following a request from player Gregory Vargas, aims to act as a talent incubator by requiring each team to include at least one U-21 and one U-23 player. By September 1, the FVB confirmed the LSB will begin on September 25 at the Parque Naciones Unidas in Caracas.
