Venezuelan electoral legitimacy tensions
Overview
In Venezuela, political tension persists regarding the legitimacy of future elections. Opposition leader María Corina Machado has stated that Venezuelans will not accept elections in which she is barred from competing as a presidential candidate.
While dialogue is underway concerning the designation of Supreme Tribunal of Justice magistrates and the unblocking of Venezuelan gold in the Bank of England, pressure remains to appoint a new National Electoral Council and establish an election schedule.
