Overview

Colombia continues to host a significant portion of the Venezuelan diaspora, with official records indicating that approximately 2.84 million Venezuelans reside in the country. This represents roughly 35.89% of the total Venezuelan migrant population. Major urban centers such as Bogotá, Medellín, and Cúcuta serve as primary hubs for these populations.

In response to recent deportation measures for irregular migrants, the Colombian government has clarified that these policies do not target Venezuelan citizens who have regularized their status. Interior Minister Rodrigo Lara stated that individuals holding the Permiso por Protección Temporal (PPT) are not considered illegal immigrants. The government has indicated that enforcement efforts are instead focused on combating human smuggling and criminal organizations, such as the Clan del Golfo, that profit from irregular transit.
