VfL Bochum has implemented a ban on synchronized, rhythmic jumping in the East Stand of the Ruhrstadion. The decision follows an engineering assessment conducted during stadium modernization plans, which identified a ‘trampoline effect’ caused by mass coordinated movements. While engineers confirmed the stand's structural load-bearing capacity remains intact, they noted these vibrations can cause a ‘discomfort effect’ and nausea for spectators. The ban specifically targets coordinated jumping in blocks N2, O, P, and Q, though spontaneous goal celebrations are excluded. This measure serves as an alternative to the total closure of the stand, which would prevent 10,000 fans from attending matches. The restriction is expected to remain until renovations are completed in 2028. In response, the Ultras Bochum have criticized the order issued by the local building supervisory authority, describing the reasoning behind the ban as ‘ridiculous’ and expressing astonishment at the decision. Further operational challenges at the aging facility have been noted, including strict regulations regarding unobstructed emergency exits. Failure to keep these exits clear of banners has previously led to match delays or interruptions. Additionally, the stadium faces technical limitations, such as difficulties scanning mobile tickets at certain points, necessitating the use of printed tickets for away fans.
