Vietnam-China diplomatic condolences for Chu Dung Cơ Zhu Rongji

Following the death of former Chinese Premier Chu Dung Cơ Zhu Rongji on August 12, Vietnamese leadership issued official messages of condolence to Chinese President Xi Jinping and other high-ranking officials. Leaders, including General Secretary and President Tô Lâm Lâm, National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn, and Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, Secretariat Permanent Member Trần Cẩm Tú, recognized Chu Zhu as an “outstanding leader” who contributed significantly to China’s economic integration and helped promote Vietnam-China relations. On August 18, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng led a high-level delegation to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam to sign the condolence book and pay respects. During the ceremony, Vietnamese officials reaffirmed their respect for Chu’s Prime Minister Hưng conveyed deep condolences from Vietnam’s top leadership to President Xi Jinping, other Chinese leaders, and Zhu’s family. He emphasized that Vietnam highly values Zhu’s contributions to bilateral ties. In response, Chinese Ambassador Hà Vĩ expressed gratitude for the condolences and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening the “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” and the “Vietnam-China community with a shared future.”
