Vietnam and China have initiated discussions to deepen bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation to stimulate economic growth. During an official visit by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in mid-October 2026, both nations explored leveraging digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and clean energy as primary growth drivers. The partnership aims to transition from equipment procurement toward deeper integration through joint research, technology transfer, and engineer training. While China possesses significant capabilities in AI, telecommunications, and electric vehicles, Vietnam is actively promoting its digital economy and the application of technology in state management and production. This momentum continued at the Vietnam-China Youth Forum, where participants proposed establishing a ‘Vietnam-China Young Intellectual Network’ and a ‘Young Technology Ambassador’ scholarship program. Further proposals include the creation of a Vietnam-China Young Research Alliance to develop joint laboratories for AI, semiconductors, and green energy, alongside initiatives to support cross-border startup incubation.
