In late July 2026, authorities in Nghe An province shut down a private clinic that deliberately created false disease signs to extort large treatment fees. Doctors were reported to have pumped soy‑milk into the urethra, applied ointments to the cervix and scraped the uterine lining with metal tools, causing severe urinary and reproductive injuries, infections and long‑term complications.

Gynecologists warned that injecting any foreign substance into the vagina or urethra can disrupt the microbiome, provoke inflammation, bleeding, severe pain and spread infection, raising infertility risk. No clinical guidelines endorse the use of food substances for diagnostic or therapeutic gynecologic procedures.

Further investigations on 24 July detailed the range of injuries: chronic urethral stricture, cystitis, bladder scarring requiring reconstruction, cervical inflammation, Asherman’s syndrome, recurrent miscarriage, and in men, prostatitis, orchitis and potential bloodstream infection. On 30 July the clinic’s staff were arrested on fraud charges after a 45‑year‑old patient was told he had a serious urethral infection and paid more than 20 million VND for a soy‑milk injection that provided no benefit. The case underscores the emergence of “medical abuse” as a form of violence against patients and prompts ongoing regulatory scrutiny in Vietnam.
