Vietnam emergency medical system development

Vietnam is advancing reforms to its emergency medical services, moving toward a more integrated and rapid response model. In August 2026, the government approved a scheme for the 2026-2030 period to develop pre-hospital emergency care. This initiative aims to provide immediate care at the scene of accidents rather than waiting for patients to reach hospitals. The plan includes establishing dedicated switchboards in 34 provinces, utilizing a unified emergency number, and implementing digital mapping to coordinate public and private resources.

Following this, the Institute of Air Force Medicine proposed the creation of a standardized national aeromedical evacuation network. This proposal seeks to transition from using modified military transport aircraft to a unified system of specialized aircraft, including fixed-wing planes for intensive care and advanced helicopters. To support this network, experts have recommended expanding helicopter landing pads at hospitals and strategic locations, as well as establishing a simulated training center to prepare medical personnel for the unique conditions of aviation-environment patient care.
