Authorities in Vietnam have introduced new traffic regulations on several expressway sections to improve safety and road capacity. On October 12, 2026, the maximum speed limit on the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh Expressway was reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. This decision by the Department of Roads of Vietnam aimed to ensure infrastructure compatibility and stable operations. Following this, the Vietnam Road Administration announced new lane management rules for the Cau Giẽ-Cao Bồ Expressway, effective October 20, 2026. The regulation designates the lane closest to the median divider as a high-speed lane with a speed range of 80 km/h to 100 km/h. Large buses and heavy trucks are prohibited from using this lane for regular travel and may only use it for overtaking. Under this scheme, Lane 2 will have a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h. Specifically, buses with more than 29 seats and trucks weighing over 7.5 tons are prohibited from staying in the high-speed lane and must return to Lane 2 after overtaking. These measures are intended aim to prevent resolve issues where slow-moving vehicles from obstructing occupy the leftmost lanes, which has previously hindered road capacity. Signage and road markings are currently being finalized to support the transition.
