Vietnam is progressing with major highway infrastructure projects, specifically targeting connectivity and land clearance milestones by 2026 and 2027. In Ho Chi Minh City, land clearance for the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway has reached 98.63% completion across five communes. While 94.1% of the 2,118 total cases have agreed to compensation and resettlement, officials noted that progress is slower than required. The city aims to finalize all land clearance by October 2026, with a resettlement area in Nhuan Duc commune expected to be operational by the end of that year. On a national scale, the 3,183km Ho Chi Minh Highway project is working toward full connectivity by the end of 2026. While much of the route is complete, several segments remain in progress. The Cho Chu to Trung Son intersection is approximately 99% complete, and the Chon Thanh to Duc Hoa section is at 96%. Other segments, including Rach Soi to Ben Nhat and Go Quao to Vinh Thuan, are at 73% completion due to material shortages and land handover delays. These remaining sections are projected to be connected by 2026, with full operation expected in early 2027. Additional expressway projects face similar hurdles. The Ho Chi Minh City - My Thuan expansion requires clearing over 117 hectares, but delays in relocating electricity and telecommunications infrastructure threaten construction timelines for late 2026. The My Thuan - Can Tho project is also struggling with incomplete land handover in Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces, compounded by a scarcity of sand and stone. Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh project has achieved 95.37% land handover, though authorities must resolve remaining asset relocations and compensation by November 2026.
