Vietnam is working to modernize its hydrometeorology sector through legislative updates and enhanced scientific capabilities. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has prioritized the completion of a revised Law on Meteorology and Hydrology to improve disaster forecasting, early warning systems, and climate resource management. To support these efforts, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has focused on digital transformation, utilizing high-resolution numerical models and supercomputing to maintain forecasting reliability for storms, floods, and landslides. Administrative changes, including the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Van Khiem as Deputy Director, have also been implemented to strengthen state management. Building on these legislative and technical advancements, the Ministry has released the 2025 climate change scenario for Vietnam. This updated framework incorporates the latest findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to provide a scientific basis for policy planning, risk management, and proactive climate adaptation. Expanding on these projections, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has released an updated climate change scenario extending through 2100. This latest update warns of significant temperature increases in major urban centers, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and highlights the impact of rising sea levels on the Mekong Delta.
