Vietnam prepared to launch a nationwide sports movement titled ‘Each citizen chooses at least one suitable sport for regular practice’ to promote public health and national strength. Following a directive from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated the initiative, which was designed to be held through both in-person and online formats. The movement officially launched on October 10, 2026. She further noted that physical health serves as the foundation of national strength, citing the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh. The initiative aims to implement government conclusions regarding the development of physical education and sports in a new era. In Bac Ninh, a local launch at the city sports stadium involved over 1,000 delegates, including students, athletes, and officials. Similar large-scale responses were recorded in Gia Lai, Lao Cai, and Mu Cang Chai. Activities at these events included walking parades, running, and demonstrations of various disciplines such as Wushu, Taekwondo, Judo, pickleball, badminton, and volleyball. Following the launch, the movement has since expanded into regional ~~competitions.~~ competitions and diverse community activities. In Lang Son province, the 10th Provincial Sports Festival opened on October 15, 2026, featuring 17 sports disciplines and over 2,500 athlete appearances. Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, stated the festival serves as a platform to evaluate local development and identify talented athletes for national competitions. Other regional activities include traditional wrestling in Bac Ninh, mass running events in Hanoi, and senior wellness clubs in Hung Yen. This expansion follows directives from the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam to enhance the physical stature and quality of life for citizens in a new era.
