Vietnam population ageing and silver economy adaptation elderly care initiatives
Vietnam is addressing rapid population ageing by developing new models and expanding the ‘silver economy’. In Ho Chi Minh City, the Youth Volunteer Force has proposed a pilot program to establish three elderly care facilities. This initiative aims to integrate medical treatment with nutrition, physical activity, rehabilitation, and mental health support to assist families. The proposal comes as the city’s elderly population is projected to reach approximately 1.57 million people by 2025, representing about 11.4% of the total population. Further developments in Ho Chi Minh City include the launch of a new healthcare and social activity model in Binh Duong Ward. This local initiative utilizes medical stations to provide seniors with spaces for health monitoring and community engagement. The ward has also implemented lifelong health record models and home-based care services for frail individuals or those unable to visit medical facilities.
