Various regions in Vietnam reported strong economic performance through the first eight months of 2026. In the energy sector, PV Power is projected to achieve record profits, with earnings expected to reach nearly 6,500 billion VND. This growth is largely driven by the commencement of the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants. Additionally, Phu Tho province saw a significant rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) into its industrial zones, which reached over 2,059 million USD, a 3.6-fold increase compared to the previous year. In Dong Thap province, the industrial production index rose by 12.58% year-on-year. The province also reported an increase in business registrations, with 2,239 new enterprises established during the first eight months of the year, representing a 21.2% increase over the same period in 2025. Recent developments indicate broader fiscal and labor shifts. The Ministry of Finance has proposed tax reforms intended to reduce personal and corporate income taxes by 30% for households and small-scale businesses to assist cash flow. In Hue, tax revenue increased by more than 12% during the first eight months, primarily driven by foreign-invested enterprises. While new business registrations remain high, tax authorities are also conducting a campaign to address a surge in business dissolutions. In the gig economy, the ride-hailing platform BE disclosed revenue sharing models where drivers in Hanoi receive 63.6% of payments and those in Ho Chi Minh City receive 69.4%. Meanwhile, ride-hailing drivers are advocating for mandatory social insurance and legal recognition to address issues regarding stable income and social security.
