Recent traffic incidents in Vietnam have brought attention to road safety risks and the legal obligations of drivers. Fatal accidents involving underage teenagers in Hanoi and Dak Lak have highlighted concerns regarding reckless driving and parental negligence, with authorities initiating criminal proceedings against adults who provide vehicles to unauthorized minors. In Hanoi, a late September 2026 collision involving high-speed teenagers resulted in the death of a young scientist. Further enforcement actions include a fine of 9 million VND against a mother in Hanoi after her 15-year-old student was filmed weaving through traffic on an electric motorbike. In Ho Chi Minh City, police have detained several teenagers following a violent street attack on Nguyen Co Thach Street, where a group on motorbikes used helmets and weapons to strike a victim. Law enforcement has also responded to individual acts of road rage and violence, including the detention of a man, L. A. T., for assaulting a taxi driver, and the apprehension of Huynh Luong Loc after video surfaced showing him using a wooden stick to damage a car on Quach Dieu Street. Recent enforcement efforts have expanded to include large-scale surveillance. In Thanh Hóa, authorities published a list of 435 vehicle violations captured via cameras, while in Ho Chi Minh City’s Gò Vấp District, 163 motorcyclists were fined for riding on sidewalks. Additionally, police in Nghệ An are investigating a case where female students at Đinh Bạt Tuỵ High School filmed themselves assaulting a classmate. Newer reports indicate a continued trend of violence and accidents. In Phú Thọ, authorities are investigating a physical assault following a traffic dispute where a driver blocked another vehicle.
