Vietnamese authorities, including the Ministry of Public Security and provincial police from Nghe An and Lao Cai, have dismantled a fraudulent investment scheme operating under the name ‘Tatao Live’. The group utilized an ‘AI retail ecosystem’ facade, claiming to use artificial intelligence and virtual characters to automate sales livestreams on major e-commerce platforms like TikTok, Shopee, and Lazada. Between June 2025 and October 2026, the suspects operated through two entities: TATAO Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd., represented by Hoang Trung Kien, and LIVESTREAM AI Market Development Co., Ltd., represented by Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram. To establish credibility, the suspects used official business registrations, tax codes, and hosted online conferences. They also offered rewards such as cash and electronic devices. Instead of using official app stores, participants were directed to download files via specific links and were required to purchase AI livestream packages ranging from 2.9 million VND to over 84.9 million VND. Initial reports estimated the misappropriation at over 220 billion VND, but subsequent investigations revealed the scheme mobilized 407 billion VND, with a total misappropriation of 404 billion VND. Seven suspects have been indicted for ‘using computer networks, telecommunications networks, or electronic means to appropriate property and money laundering’. Authorities have recovered approximately 8.6 billion VND to date.
