Vietnamese banks are undergoing significant capital expansions. National Citizen Bank (NCB) received approval from the State Bank of Vietnam to increase its charter capital by up to 33,000 billion VND through a private share issuance to professional securities investors. If successful, this would increase NCB’s charter capital to nearly 62,280 billion VND. Separately, Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB) has become the first bank in Vietnam to exceed 100,000 billion VND in charter capital. This milestone followed capital, reaching a total of 100,687.5 billion VND following an offering of over 805 million shares to existing shareholders. MB MB’s capital has grown from 10,000 billion VND in 2012, and as of late June 2026, the bank reported total assets exceeding 1.7 quadrillion VND. The bank is currently transitioning into a financial-technology group with a focus focusing on digital infrastructure and ESG-related investments. VPBank has also reached the 100,000 billion VND milestone, becoming the first private bank in Vietnam to do so. This was achieved through a stock issuance to pay dividends, which increased outstanding shares from 7.93 billion to 10 billion units. This represents the first phase of a two-step capital increase plan for 2026; VPBank intends to further increase its charter capital to approximately 106,244 billion VND via a private placement of over 624 million shares to a foreign investor. For the first six months of 2026, VPBank reported a consolidated pre-tax profit of 18,880 billion VND, with total consolidated assets exceeding 1.5 quadrillion VND by the end of June.
