Efforts to preserve Vietnamese culture and language have expanded from diaspora-focused initiatives to broader national educational reforms within Vietnam. Initial efforts centered on the Vietnamese diaspora, including a training program for 50 overseas teachers from 14 countries to improve language instruction in phonetics and grammar. In California, community programs such as the Hung Vuong Program held historical sessions to connect youth with Vietnamese history. Domestically, Vietnam has moved toward integrating traditional culture into the national school curriculum, exemplified by the establishment of ethnic culture clubs like the Muong club at Quyet Thang High School. Concurrently, the education sector is undergoing structural reforms to address digital transformation and management efficiency. These reforms include reorganizing institutions and reassigning leadership staff to teaching roles to mitigate teacher shortages. More recently, Vietnam has utilized national observances, such as Language Day on September 8, to promote linguistic heritage and strengthen national identity against the pressures of globalization and digital individualism. Following Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW from the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam, there is an increased emphasis on using the Vietnamese language as a vital link between the diaspora and the homeland. Programs including language classes, book collections, and cultural activities aim to empower overseas Vietnamese to act as cultural ambassadors.
