Vingroup has entered into significant international agreements to develop railway and metro infrastructure in Vietnam. In late September 2026, VinSpeed signed a contract worth over $1 billion with Siemens Mobility to supply 10 Velaro Novo train sets. These will serve the 121km Hanoi-Quang Ninh route and the 54km Ben Thanh-Can Gio route, including the provision of power and information systems. Following this, Vingroup partnered with France’s Alstom to supply 200 Metropolis metro trainsets for urban rail projects in Hanoi. This agreement includes a technology transfer component where Alstom will manufacture the first 83 units in France, while the remaining 117 units will be produced and assembled by Vingroup in Vietnam. The new trains are designed for Grade of Automation 4, allowing for fully driverless operation. On October 6, 2026, details emerged regarding the scope of the Alstom agreement, which covers five metro lines (Lines 1, 2, 8, 10, and 14) spanning approximately 303.5 km. The five-car trains will feature lightweight aluminum alloy bodies to reduce energy consumption and track wear. They will also utilize advanced braking systems that combine disc brakes with regenerative braking to recover energy during deceleration. This collaboration is intended to enhance Vietnam’s domestic rail manufacturing capabilities and integrate the country into the global industrial value chain.
