In September 2026, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines experienced a series of violent incidents. Early in the month, Arnos Vale reported two separate fatalities: a pedestrian killed in a reckless driving accident and a 48-year-old businessman shot and killed in the early hours of a Saturday morning. On the night of Friday, September 25, a mass shooting occurred in the Green Hill community of Central Kingstown. Gunmen arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on a group gathered near a shop at approximately 10:30 p.m., leaving four people dead and four others wounded. Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey reported that victims were found in various locations, including on a public road, on adjacent land, and inside a parked vehicle. The deceased have been identified as Steve King, Antonio Samuel, Shaqueil Peters, and Shevon Chandler. Of the four injured, two have been discharged from Milton Cato Memorial Hospital while two remain under medical care. A separate shooting occurred in the Fair Hall area at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, resulting in one young man being injured. Authorities have not yet confirmed if the Fair Hall incident is linked to the Green Hill shooting. Following the Green Hill incident, police have launched a manhunt. Acting Commissioner Trevor Bailey and Assistant Commissioner Brenton Smith have indicated that investigations are ongoing, and authorities are appealing to the public for witnesses or video footage to assist in the search. Police are investigating the mass shooting as a potential act of gang violence or retaliation between rival groups, though no arrests have been made. National Security Minister St. Clair Leacock addressed the violence, noting that while the country is generally peaceful, gang-related crime remains a significant challenge. These events contributed to a total of 37 homicides recorded in the country for the year.
